JACKSON-SHAW TAPS EXECUTIVE CHEF FOR NEW DUAL-BRANDED HOTEL IN NORTH PHOENIX

Four-story, 277-room hotel development set to debut this November

PHOENIX, ARIZONA (August 29, 2025) – Hospitality developer Jackson-Shaw, based in North Texas, and its development partner Holualoa Companies of Tucson have announced the appointment of Matthew O’Harris as Executive Chef for the upcoming dual-branded AC Hotel by Marriott North Phoenix at Norterra and Element by Westin North Phoenix at Norterra. The hotel, located at 25100 North 22nd Lane near West Happy Valley Road and Norterra Parkway, is on track to open in November.

“Matthew brings an outstanding culinary pedigree and creative vision that will set the tone for our food and beverage experience,” said General Manager Mark Hayes. “He’s a tremendous addition to the team as we build a hospitality experience that’s as inviting as it is unforgettable.”

O’Harris is a seasoned culinary leader with more than 20 years of experience in high-end hotel kitchens and restaurant openings. Originally from Michigan, he has twice taken top honors at Arizona’s Devour Culinary Classic and was recognized as Manager of the Year at JW Marriott Camelback Inn.

The dual-branded property, designed under one roof, will feature 277 thoughtfully appointed guest rooms – 182 within the AC Hotel by Marriott and 95 in the Element by Westin. The AC Hotel’s minimalist European aesthetic is tailored for short-stay business and leisure travelers, while the Element brand is crafted to support longer stays with spacious rooms and contemporary comforts.

“North Phoenix continues to attract significant growth, and Norterra is at the center of it all,” said Jackson-Shaw Senior Vice President of Hotel Development Joe Blewitt. “This location offers unmatched convenience and energy, with major highways, a dynamic retail and dining scene, and the economic force of the nearby TSMC campus all within minutes.”

The hotel will offer 8,000 square feet of adaptable meeting space, including three deluxe suites and two large communal group rooms. Amenities include a modern fitness center and a landscaped outdoor courtyard with a saline pool, heated spa and event lawn. The 160,133-square-foot project spans three acres and is expected to create 80 new jobs in the area, comprising 60 full-time and 20 part-time positions.

The hotel is being developed in partnership with Jackson-Shaw and Holualoa Companies. Simmons Bank is providing construction financing, Layton Construction is the general contractor, Cooper Carry is the architect and DiLeonardo is the interior designer. Crescent Hotels & Resorts manages the hotel.
